Text Search is a used to search for groups of words1 or exact phrases.    

 

  • Select Text Search from the Search menu on the STEP toolbar. 
  • Select Intermediate View with the slider in the upper right corner of the Text Search window.  
  • Select the versions you wish to search using the Bible Version(s) menu, for example, ESV, BYZ.
  • Define the search criteria using the menus and text boxes, from left to right:
    1. How many words and in what order menu, for example, words starting with.
    2. The one or more words search finds the exact form of the word entered, for example, Christs (plural).  
    3. Search words box, for example: faith trust
    4. Range of search menu, for example, Gen-Rev.
    5. Include/Exclude option menu, for example, include
    6. How many words and in what order menu, for example, all of the words. 
    7. Search words box, for example: False Christs. 
    8. Range of search menu, for example, the same verse. 

 

Suggestions for use: 

Users with medium or large screens might find it helpful to use the Two Panel option in the View menu found on the STEP toolbar. One pane can be used to display the bible text, for example ESV, with the other panel used for searching. This allows samples of text to be cut and pasted into a search window.

1Unless otherwise specified, the search finds only the exact form of the word entered. A search on Christ will not match Christs unless the words starting with option is selected.
